Event Description

Curious about native plants but not sure where to start? Native Plants 101 is a beginner-friendly class designed to introduce gardeners to the why and the wow of gardening with native plants—especially in mountain climates. We’ll start by breaking down what makes a plant “native” and why that matters here. You’ll learn how native plants are uniquely adapted to our region’s soils, weather, and wildlife—and why that makes them some of the most resilient, low-maintenance plants you can grow. Along the way, we’ll bust a few common myths (no, native plants are not all scraggly or boring!) and show you how beautiful, dynamic, and impactful native landscapes can be. This class also explores the real benefits of native plants, from supporting pollinators and wildlife to saving water and building healthier soil. We’ll explain how even small choices—like adding a few native plants to your yard—can make a meaningful difference for local ecosystems. You’ll be introduced to some of our top-performing native favorites: plants that thrive in mountain conditions, look great in home landscapes, and deliver big ecological benefits. We’ll talk through where they grow best, how to plant them successfully, and how to set them up for long-term success. Education comes first, with an emphasis on confidence and clarity. You’ll leave with a strong foundation, real planting confidence, and a handy cheat sheet of must-have native plants for your yard. As a bonus, attendees receive exclusive discounts on our homegrown native plants—lovingly started from seed right here on site and not found at big-box stores.
